EARLY CHILDHOOD CENTER OFFERS GREAT START AT WALTHER LUTHERAN ACADEMY @FOREST PARK (June 1, 2008)
SChildren have been called the flowers in God’s garden (Mother Teresa), our “most valuable natural resource” (Herbert Hoover) and proof of “God’s opinion that life should go on” (Carl Sandburg). It is only fitting then, that parents will want to select an environment that works closely with them to develop and care for their little ones and ensure that their first early childhood learning experience is a positive one. Walther Lutheran Academy @Forest Park’s Early Childhood Center director couldn’t agree more. “We provide a safe nurturing environment, a fostering environment, with a qualified staff,” explains Lisa Renn, who talks not just about serving children, but their families as well.
One of the most rewarding things about working with young children, explains Renn, is “Watching a child learn or experience something new for the first time.” And according to those who work with her, Renn works hard to create a fun, focused and family-friendly environment for children to do so. “Lisa Renn has done amazing things to spark the interest in learning for the children in our early childhood program,” shared Walther’s principal Stephen Zielke. “Her innovative and creative play activities have helped to develop early learning skills and an imaginative interest in future education.”
Renn is a California girl who came to Walther Lutheran Academy by way of Seattle, where she also served as preschool director and teacher. Her debut year at Walther was also the longtime Lutheran Education institution’s first in operating a preschool through 8th grade academy, and it has been a successful one for Early Childhood Center families. Georgeann Russell of Hanover Park has a daughter in Walther’s early childhood program. “Sasha looks forward to coming,” she enthused. “She has developed a strong sense of community with her peers and teachers. I go to work each day confident in knowing that she is being well cared for and has the opportunity to grow in a wonderfully rich learning environment,” added Russell.
Walther Lutheran Academy’s Early Childhood Center emphasizes the value of play and exploration and provides a variety of focused areas for young children to experience. The facility features a home center, language center, creative art station, block center, sensory table, computers, science center, table toys, math center and writing center. The curriculum is centered on themes, center play and field trips.
