December 2007
It
was great to see everyone who attended the Walther Class of 1967 Reunion in
October. We certainly missed all who
could not attend. As Walther classmates,
we share an association – now 40 years old – that began as early teenagers.
Over the intervening years, we have followed many different paths.
What
brought us together initially? Or should we say “who”?
In
almost every case, the answer is the same.
It was our parents who guided us to Walther. In many cases, they sacrificed their time and
income to make this happen. Often this sacrifice was multiplied as siblings
also were guided to Walther. Why did
they do this? We’re sure that they
wanted a quality education for their children in a smaller, safe and caring
Christian community.
We think that is why parents send their children to Walther today! Walther continues to meet these needs.
What
can we do today?
The
Class of ‘67 Reunion Committee suggests that we honor our parent’s vision and
commitment by establishing a fund for ongoing support of Walther. Some of us are blessed to be able to tell our
parents about this scholarship; others will say, “Thank-you” as a
memorial. We all can show our
appreciation for their sacrifices! Here
is what we suggest for your consideration:
1. Establish an Endowment Fund, “In Honor of the Parents
of the Class of 1967”, with annual interest used to
provide the scholarship benefit.
How
can we establish a fund?
The amount required to initially establish a fund is
$10,000. To reach this hurdle, we will need first-year (2007-8) commitments and
contributions reaching or exceeding $10,000.
This would also enable us to generate our first scholarship as soon as
the 2008/09 school year! Once established, future-year contributions will build
the fund, grow the annual scholarship distribution, and help us meet or exceed
our 10-year target.
Your
commitment and contributions will be sent directly to Walther. Walther will acknowledge your confidential,
tax-deductible gift. The Fund total and
annual distribution amount will be shared with classmates so we can see how we
are progressing over time.
How
would the gift be used?
We
suggest directing it be used for Student Tuition or Teacher
Salary/Incentive. A majority vote will
determine how the funding will be directed.
Please vote on the reverse side of the commitment form!
The
reunion committee is excited about this opportunity! Please join us!
We
ask you to: 1. Think and pray about
this.
2. Verify (or add) your parent’s names on the
reverse side of the commitment form.
3. Vote for the use of the gift
4. Make your pledge, enclose your initial
gift and mail it back to Walther.
