2002 Bo Flowers after graduation Bo was drafted in the 5th round and signed by the Detroit Tigers. This season, in Oneonta, Bo had a 20 game hitting streak.

2001 Todd Dulaney attended Wabash Community College and was drafted by the New York Mets. He has played 2 years of minor league ball and is pursuing a career in music.

1999 Aaron Thomas is a grad student at the U of I Champaign. He is President of MBA Students of Color, mentors H. S. youth and is on the U of I Presidential Search committee.

1991 Darren Broemmer works in the world of technology and is a published author. J2EE Best Practices is on sale now at Amazon.com where it has a 4 star rating.

1990 Brian Sims is Director of Economic Development for the Village of Maywood. Brian has served in Washington on the staff of Illinois Congressman Danny Davis.

1989 Andrew Amaya h ad an outstanding Basketball career at Southern Illinois. He then went on to play for two NBA teams and won a bronze medal in the 1998 world championships.

1988 Steve Anderson is the ordained LCMS Pastor serving Gloria Dei church in Chicago. Last year Rev. Anderson was elected to the Northern Illinois District Board of Directors.

1988 Mary Whiteside Groll earned her MD at Northwestern and served on the medical staff at the University of Chicago. Mary was the Walther graduation speaker in the year 2000.

1987 Mike Toepper g raduated from the University of Illinois. In 2002 he won the Lockwood Award for Submarine Professional Excellence. He is a Naval officer assigned to a submarine.

1987 Mark Grotelueschen is c urrently serving in the US Air Force in the Middle East. Mark has been on the faculty at the Air force Academy. He earned his doctorate at Texas A&M.

1986 Regena Fails Nelson known as Dr. Nelson to the students and Faculty of the Western Michigan University Early Childhood Department: she has co-written publications and presented papers nationally and internationally

1985 Hector Villarreal's Academic training in Marketing led him to a manufacturing company in Northlake. Now he is the owner of Weldcoa - the largest independently owned manufacturer of Palletized Trucks, Trailers and Filling Equipment in the world.

1984 Lyneir Richardson an attorney who is active in using Development projects to address community needs. As a college student, Lyneir was named the Lincoln Laureate from Butler University. As a professional, Lyneir was recognized by the Small Business Administration for his success.

1982 Ken Schlotfeldt is the President of Badger Air Brush, a family owned company that is a worldwide leader in the industry. Ken is a former member of the Walther Board of Directors and currently serves as Congregational President at Zion Bensenville.

1982 Laurie LaMantia holds a Master’s Degree in business and industrial engineering and is the co-founder of an award-winning Bell Labs venture to inspire creativity. She is also co-author of “Breakthrough Teams for Breakneck Times” published by Dearborn Trade Publishing.

1981 Dr. Manny Pyka is a cardiologist working at Elmhurst Hospital. He served as the Chief Resident at Loyola University Medical Cente.

1981 Seth Grotelueschen is the true 21st century man. Today, Seth owns and operates Midwest Information Services in Franklin Park from his home in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Seth is a former member of our Board and a 1998 graduation speaker. MIS designed and hosts www.walther.com.

1979 Phyllis Price has served 13 years in patent law, Phyllis is currently the Compliance General Manager for GE's healthcare division, focused on ensuring that its products comply with medical device and privacy regulations, and international trade laws.

1979 Jeff Jungeman is a Major in the Air Force, one of fewer than 100 people in the country who fly U2 reconnaissance missions. Jeff is often a spokesman for the recon program and has been quoted frequently in national publications.

1978 Mark Miller was the leader of a group who built an exact replica of the Wright Brothers original Kitty Hawk flyer to commemorate the 100-year anniversary of manned flight. His plane now hangs in the rotunda of the Museum of Science and Industry.

1978 Mike Hienze is a winner of the Chicagoland Lutheran Education foundation teacher of the year award. He is currently the Principal of St. Paul Canfield.

1977 Dave Surico works for the World’s Greatest Newspaper. As a writer for the Chicago Tribune Dave’s byline appears regularly in the sports section. For years he was on the Horse Racing beat.

1977 Tyrone Crider inspired Walther students when he appeared here during his tenure as the Chairman of Operation PUSH. As an ordained minister, he now cares for his flock in Hyde Park. He has also written a book in which he shares his struggles with Cancer.

1976 Dr. Steven Saar has a list of publications longer than his arm. He is doing basic research in search of life in the universe.

1974 Dr. Nancy Lass is a bundle of energy that puts all of her talents to work to glorify God. In addition to her medical career, which is blended with a missionary focus, she sings in the Chicago Symphony Orchestra Chorus.

1974 Roger Kruel began his working life on the faculty of Walther. As a coach Roger took his girls’ basketball team to a third place finish in the state. In his current career Roger is a leader in the insurance industry and chairman of the Board of Lutheran Congregations for Career Development.

1974 Dr. Robert Brewer is a project leader at the Center for Disease Control in Atlanta. His team is working on the effects of alcohol on teens.

1973 Dr. Jon Laabs is a name well known to all Lutheran Educators. As President of the Lutheran Education Association he is one the cutting edge of the professional organization that serves teachers all across America.

1973 Dave Holstein holds the elective office of Judge in his Texas County. As the government is organized in that state, the position is best understood as the chief administrator of the county. Dave graduated from Colorado School of Mines and worked in the oil industry.

1972 Mark Roeder has traveled the world while working his way up in the UPS family. Today Mark has his office in the World Headquarters and serves as the Controller of International Affairs for this ever present organization.

1971 Pastor Kurtis Schultz is the elected President of the Southern District of the Lutheran church Missouri Synod. Pastor Schultz is the leader of a district with 37,000 members in 4 states.

1970 Linda Galek is a model of dedication. She has been a teacher at our sister school, Luther North, for her entire ministry. The leader of the art department was honored as the Chicagoland Lutheran Education Foundation High School Teacher of the Year.

1968 Brian Krause is a working scientist in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He was a principal researcher in the development of the drug Lipitor.

1968 Doug Dumler is a practicing Attorney in Colorado. Before beginning his career in the legal profession, Doug appeared in the Super Bowl and was the captain of the National Champion Nebraska Corn huskers as a center.

1966 Diane Nielsen Schroder is the President of the National Lutherans for Life organization. In 1991, she helped organize Word of Hope (formerly known as LFL Healing Hearts), the post abortion outreach ministry. She has been a volunteer holding many positions at her home church and directing programs at Walther.

1966 LaDonna Arndt Hoffman is the Principal of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Chicago. She uses her talents including a love of music to form relationships and was recognized by the Chicagoland Lutheran Education Foundation for her excellence.

1965 Sandy Zimmerman Weith is Associate Executive Director, Administration & Operations for Phi Delta Kappa an international association founded in 1906, with a membership of nearly 120,000 for professional educators. Sandy was also the first Walther grad to ever return to the school as a teacher.

1965 Pat Scala is the leader of a company that is a Chicago tradition. Scala Preferred Meats helped promote the establishment of dozens of Italian beef and sausage stands all across the city. The rest is Chicago history.

1965 Dr. Terry Pencek is the one I think of when I say “it's not brain surgery”: for Dr. Pencek it is. The Doctor even served as the Chairman of Neurosurgery at the Southern Illinois University Medical School.

1965 Pastor Steve Bouman is Bishop of the Metro New York in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. He also served as Chair of the ELCA Board of Higher Education and Schools.

1964 Paul Wentland, who died in December of 2003, was a giant in the Chicagoland business community. After earning his MBA he was the President of Amlings, a major name famous for aggressive marketing. After Paul left the family business he became the founder of Petal Pushers in Elmhurst. Paul was active in many church and community organizations.

1964 Fred Kaufman, the son of a Lutheran schoolteacher, graduated from Illinois State University and became a teacher himself. Soon his business talents took into a new field, food service. Today Mr. Kaufman is the President of Omni Restaurants and is one of the major figures in the world of Burger King franchises.

1964 Dennis Clauss is an ordained Lutheran pastor with an unusual ministry. In recent years Dennis has been expanding his witness audience by working in media production, first for Aid Association for Lutherans and then for the newly created Thrivent Financial for Lutherans. This year, the DVD of the movie Luther, which he was a part of, will be available all across the nation.

1963 Doris (Kelley) Christopher is the Horatio Alger of this generation. The Pampered Chef was started in the family basement in 1980 and now has more than 12 million customers. Doris, who has been recognized as on the top 50 businesswomen in the nation, is also a New York Times best-selling author.

1963 Dr. Frank Baker has taken his wisdom and medical talents to Russia and Central Asia helping to improve health care in foreign lands. Dr. Baker is the Chairman of Department for Emergency Medicine at the University of Chicago and co founder of the U of C Aeromedical Network.

1962 George Henderson has a colorful story, just as you might expect from a southern gentleman. George spent his sophomore and senior years at Walther, when he was not boarding in North Carolina. During his career he has built three successful businesses that have been sold. Along the way he sued and defeated one of the giant Bell companies. Today he is the President of a company in Nashville, Tennessee.

1962 Jay Christopher is the chairman of Thatcher Technology Group Inc. He has become one of the most active philanthropists for education in the Chicagoland area. Jay serves on many boards and is the President of the Chicagoland Lutheran Education Foundation. Jay was named Entrepreneur of the Year for the National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship 2000.

1961 Lee Schmidt has stories to tell from his many years with UPS. After leaving the delivery giant he was a top executive with a firm that served his former company. His professional forte was finance, which he now uses as Vice President at King of Glory Lutheran Church in Williamsburg Va.

1960 Dr. Roy Austensen's academic studies career includes the Ph.D., University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, 1969, with a major in the field of history; language study at the Goethe Institute, Bad Reichenhall, Germany, 1969; graduate study in history, University of Vienna, Austria, 1966-67; M.S. Today he is the Provost of Valparaiso University.

1958 Dr. Robert Toepper is a leading thinker in Lutheran education. The Doctor has recently retired from the faculty of Concordia River Forest. Dr. Toepper is the author of many articles. His recent contribution to the Lutheran Education Journal helped to focus Walther faculty on the need to articulate a distinctively Lutheran Philosophy of Education.
