Matching funds have been received from Octoberfest. We've received our yearly check from Coke. Hotel rooms were provided for the Girls' Basketball Team and coaches as they participated in the Girls' Basketball State Finals. Meals were provided to those wrestlers that participated in the Wrestling State Finals. No expenses to report from the Taste of Walther. There is a possibility that we could be reimbursed for portion of the hotel room and transportation since the entire team traveled Thursday for the participation of the three point shooting contest for one team member. B. Tuomi stated that he reviewed the Term & Conditions and did not locate any written clause pertaining to the above situation.
Athletic Director's Report: B. Tuomi reported that the Girls' Basketball Team had a successful season. They finished their season 26 – 7. Approximately 400 fans supported the Girls' Basketball Team at state finals on Friday, February 24, 2006. The school transported approximately 140 fans to the state finals. A couple of the girls' has been honored: Jasmine Harvey – All-Area 1 st Team and Dominque Wright – All-Area 4 th Team.
The Wrestling Team also had a successful season. They finished their season 15 – 4. Twelve wrestlers participated in the AAU Freshman – Sophomore State Final Tournament. The tournament is similar to the Varsity State Final Tournament. Six wrestlers advance on to the next round next Sunday at Fenwick, after that will be the state final in Tinley Park for those who advance on.
The Boys' Basketball completed their season with a loss to Timothy Christian in the regional finals. They finished two games below five hundred. The sophomore basketball team finished their season 16-8 and 2 nd in the Conference.
Spring Sports: Baseball, Softball, Tennis and Track begin practicing this Thursday.
Rule changes for Girls' Softball; they are required to have mask on their helmets. B. Tuomi requested for reimbursement of $134.00 for purchasing the necessary equipment for the helmets. Motion Made and Seconded to approve B. Tuomi request for reimbursement. PASSED.
The Softball and Baseball Team are in needs of new pants; approximately twenty pair of pants for each team. The cost will be approximately $1,000 for the Girls and $2,000 for the Boys. Motion Made and Seconded to approve new pants for Softball and Baseball Team. PASSED.
It was recommended that we invest in cleaning and mending our teams' uniforms professionally. It would approximately cost $3 to $4 per uniforms by a company, All-American in Franklin Park however it was recommended that we verified price cost. B. Tuomi stated he would have prices from All American at the next meeting.
K. Slechta advised that Cross Country and Volleyball would need new uniforms next season. It was also stated that the Track & Field teams were in need of new uniforms.
Concession Report: Two more Grade School Tournament: March 11 th & 12 th and March 18 th and March 19 th and the play the first weekend in May. It was suggested that we possible sell concession before the graduation ceremony.
Non-Concession Report: Taste of Walther is over. The best events at the Taste of Walther were the Salsa dance at the end of Walther. It was recommended that for next year when scheduling the Taste of Walther that we factor the holiday weekend, Wrestling State Tournament and the Sectionals for the Girls' Basketball Tournament. Also we need to established guidelines and portions of foods. Pricing was not in line with the portions of food. The vendors made the decision.
Wheels for Walther
Proposal was acceptance – Everything was great idea. Concerns with the brick paving around the concession stand made be the best location. The plan would be to have the brick goes from gate to gate and the design would be setup in clusters to establish two different directions (coming and going). School buy-in is still needed. Everyone involvement (role) needs to be pinpointed. Overall commitment is needed. J. Edwards will follow up with D. Gillingham with regards to the plan. S. Berg volunteered to work with the school on the fundraiser ideas.
Old Business:
Mini Bus – Repairs: Awaiting the final parts before completed repairs. Coaches have received their CDL permits. Portable lights are scheduled for the game against Rockford Lutheran on September 22, 2006. We are waiting pending approval from the mayor office. We are seeking sponsor for the twelve portable lights that are needed for the night game on September 22 nd . The cost will be approximately $125.
New Business:
Price Quote was presented for Walkie/Talkie. Cost approximately $1632 for six Walkie/Talkie. It was suggested that the booster and school could split the cost for the Walkie/Talkie and share the use of the Walkie/Talkie.
