Dreams come true...
In the early 1970's, there were dreams of a few Walther Lutheran supporters interested in
opening a resale shop to help defray the growing deficit of the school. The dream began to
materialize when a Board of Managers was appointed to begin the formation of the Bronco
Thrift Shop. A store was rented at 9 N. Fifth Avenue in Maywood, a salaried manager was hired
and, with a team of enthusiastic volunteers, the doors to the Bronco Thrift Shop opened to the
public on February 4, 1978.
Due to the overwhelming success of the store, in September, 1979, a need for larger facilities
prompted the Board to purchase a building at 20 N. Fifth Avenue in Maywood. It gave the store
about four times the floor space of the previous location. With the continued success of the
store, just three years after purchasing the building, a mortgage burning was held.
Since 1995, after the dissolution of the Board of Members, the Bronco Resale Shop is currently
run under the direction of the Walther Lutheran High School Board of Directors.
Thanks to the help of Walther family volunteers, in August, 1996, a much needed cleaning and
paint job gave the Shop a new look. The greatest addition to the Resale Shop was the
installation of the new air conditioning system!
It started with hard work and a lot of determination. Continued success of the Bronco Resale
Shop has aided in the goal of providing funds for the high school, has helped students with
tuition fees, and has been a service to the community at large.
We will only succeed by your continued support, prayers and sacrifice.
