Service Hour Information

Suggestions for Christian Service

Below is a partial list of the types of activities which will be counted for community service. It is not an exhaustive list. Be creative.

Cohort Service (to Walther Lutheran High School Association)
• Sports Camps
• Grade school tournaments
• Open Houses
• School clean-up days
• Thrivent projects (eg. Gym renewal last summer)
• CROP Walk (4 hours)
• Wooden Bat League
• Oktoberfest
• Golf Outing
• Recruiting

Congregational Service
• Ushering, Acolyting
• Serving on committees
• Sunday School teacher or helper
• VBS teacher or helper
• Bethel Lutheran Ministry Project
• Assisting the Pastor(s)
• Helping in Office work
• Aiding in the congregational school
• Aftercare
• Church nursery
• Clean-up days
• Helping decorate for seasons or festivals
• Helping at church festivals
• Helping clean the church or grounds
• Crop Walk (4 hours)

Career Service
• Health Careers: volunteer at hospitals, clinics, rehab centers, visiting nurse programs, parish or school nurse programs, athletic trainers
• Building/Trade Careers: Habitat for Humanity, rebuilding or clean up projects after disasters, building blitzes
• Teaching Careers: volunteer tutoring at WLHS or other schools, aiding in a school, aftercare, pre-school or daycare aiding
• Sociology, Psychology, Social Work Careers: nursing homes, adult living facilities, hospitals, daycare centers, pastoral aide, aiding in schools, Bethel Lutheran Church Ministry
• Church Ministry Careers: shadowing pastors/priests/ministers, aiding them, working with a Youth Worker to plan or run activities, working with a deaconess
• Business Careers: mostly shadowing opportunities except with volunteer agencies to help with office work, helping Boosters with inventory, ordering, checking in supplies
• Engineering Careers: mostly shadowing opportunities except with volunteer building or trade programs
• CROP Walk (4 hours)

Community Service
• Town, village, city sponsored volunteer opportunities
• CROP Walk (4 hours)
• Mission Trips
• Helping at neighborhood fairs, festivals, etc.
• Doing community beautification projects
• Working for political actions or candidates
• Library volunteering
• Brookfield Zoo volunteering
• Working at the Chicago Marathon
