Greetings
When you walk a dog you are supposed to have him walk with his head slightly behind your left leg. Yeah right! My dogs lead the way for me. Often I let them walk wherever they choose. Other times I let them think they are leading the way. In either case, I walk behind a dog for about 45 minutes each day.
That gives you a lot of time to think.
Sometimes I look at the dog. I wonder which way he will try to move. I look for obstructions in our path. I become hypnotized with the rhythm of the movement. I watch for signs of an impending “rest break.” I work to ensure that we don’t walk through the neighbors flowers.
Other times I look ahead. I keep an open eye for other dogs, for upcoming streets and joggers on the horizon. I check out the cars idling five driveways ahead of me. I look at the neighbors’ porches at marvel that a child’s bike has been in the same spot for the last three days.
Sometimes -- not often enough -- I look up. I see the clouds and the shapes that grow from them. I see the tops of roofs. I especially like seeing the birds perched on high places.
Such is the life of a Christian. We are the on the lookout for the things of the world, the good and bad things that help to shape who we are. More importantly, we turn our eyes -- not often enough -- to the hills from which our strength comes. Life gets busy. The dog needs walking, but ask yourself if your life be more enriched by watching the dog “rest” or by setting your focus on the heaven that has been prepared for us by our Heavenly Friend.

Hey theater buffs -- our own Gene Schuldt ‘69 sends us this note about his most recent appearance on the Milwaukee Stage. CLICK HERE!
Last week we told you about the passing of 1965 grad John Koziol. His visitation service will be held this Saturday, September 8, at Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Elburn, Illinois at 10 a.m. The funeral will begin at noon. Research leads us to believe that John is only one of two people who has ever played a sport at Walther and coached at both Walther and Luther North. The other is a 1971 grad, our current Athletic Director Dave Zemke.
God’s blessings
