Greetings
There is a sound to the stillness. It may not be a sound; it could be the memory of a sound. Perhaps it is the anticipation of the sound. But there is definitely a sound. The longer you are still, the louder the sound gets. We don’t know about the sound because we don’t sit still long enough. When we do hear it we don’t recognize it because we don’t sit still long enough. When we sit long enough the sound of the stillness becomes louder and more undeniable. The sound speaks to us, and the voice is personal. The same stillness sounds different to each of us.
God’s Word calls us to be still and know that He is God.
There is a time of stillness for each of us. For most of us there is more than one time of stillness. For most of us we need more than one time to really hear the sound of the stillness. Each of us responds to this sound in a different way at a different.
My advice is to look for the place where you can be still. It may be in field or park. It may be in a pew or in your car. It may be in your room, a place recommended for prayer. I believe that perhaps the purpose of your life may be as simple as finding that still place and as profound as hearing the sound of that stillness.
School News
The Taste of Walther scheduled for March 15 has been cancelled. The Taste of Walther has been a way for the Walther School community to come together and celebrate our diversity. The Taste also is one of the Booster fundraisers which has raised over $1500 each year for the Booster's Wheels for Walther fund. Unfortunately, the Boosters have not been able to get enough participation from Walther families and local restaurants to donate food - a necessity for the Taste! Please watch for the next Booster fundraising event - The Spring Plant Sale. Spring Plant Order forms will be sent with the school's monthly Bronco News and will be available online in March. Please take the opportunity to purchase at least one flat or container of plants from the Spring Plant sale to ensure the Booster fundraising goals for this year can be met.
Schools have life cycles and we all obey the dictates of our calendars. Now is the time when we begin to plan for the coming school year. 2007-2008 has been a tough one for us financially. We are looking toward 2008-2009 with recognition that we must balance our budget. The income draws more than X % from tuition. A serious and marked decline in funding from congregations puts a greater strain on parents and donors to bridge the gap in operations and provide a margin of excellence for our programs.
The class of 2012 is coming together nicely. We are on pace for a freshmen class equal in size to this year’s crop. Our senior class is larger than in recent years. Our census will be driven on the net of our transfer students.
We are constructing our master course schedule for the coming year. Major changes are afoot in our Foreign Language offerings and in the Science Department.
It is always exciting to provide alumni, parents and friends with a more detailed look into the best possible future for Walther. Give us a call and we can get together.
A successful winter sports season is nearly complete. Jonathon White ‘09 and Chris Thompson ’08 are still alive in the IHSA individual basketball competitions to be held in Peoria. Chris is shooting in the 3-Point Showdown and Jon is doing dunk shots! Our basketball teams each won the regular season Private School League championship and took home the Regional Championship Titles. The girls also won the PSL tournament crown. The Bronco wrestlers won the IHSA Regional and advanced four individuals to the State Meet -- David Tuomi ‘09, Robert Watson ’09, Steven Campbell ‘08 and Will Jenkins ’08. Will finished fourth in Class A.
Now we are on to spring sports! Check Walther.com for news about the upcoming season.
Alumni News
Career Day is fast upon us. Are you curious who will be here and what they will be talking about? There are a lot of alumni faces planning to visit the halls of their high school alma mater. Look at this note we shared with faculty…
You and your students may find it helpful to know that the Career Day speakers are listed at Walther.com with links to their businesses where possible and the Mini College Fair educational institutions are linked as well. It is prominently linked from the front page at Walther.com.
We know that we live in a world connected to other people and events all around the globe. We received this note from alumna and former teacher, Danielle Tetzler ‘96…
I just wanted to let you know that I talked to Jonathan Howard, Felicia Cotton, and Phil Moore last week. All of them attend NIU and all three were close to what happened - Felicia had just left that building, Jonathan was supposed to have a class there but wasn't there that day, and Phil and his friends were standing outside the building and had someone run to them asking to call 911...I just want everyone to say a prayer of thanks that our alumni were safe and that God watched over all three. |
Tug Gillingham ‘00 who is currently doing his student teaching under Mr. Korntheuer has just signed to play baseball with the Sioux City Explorers of the American Association. Tug will be playing for former Cubs pitcher Les Lancaster.
God’s blessings
