Greetings
Life is good for the people of Walther. We are set to go on vacation. The Easter Break is always welcome, and this year, maybe more so. Even if the weather is not the greatest there is a joy in the freedom that the break brings. Freedom is a good thing.
Some of our Family members will be deeply involved in Christian service. Some Broncos will be working on their athletic skills. A few will be in the books, writing papers or concerned with college planning. A bunch of people will simply “hang out.” Freedom is a good thing.
We all have opinions about how free time should be spent, or as some might say, invested. Each of us chooses our own method of applying the freedoms that we enjoy. We have the freedom of speech but many of us choose to have silly conversations. We have the freedom of the press and sometime it is the sleaziest content that is the most read.
Christians have freedom from sin and our lives are defined by what we do with our freedom. We are free to share the Word of God with everyone we meet. We are free to serve others and to give from our first fruits. We are free to set our eyes on our certain reunion with our Creator. Freedom is good.
I hope that the celebration of Easter offers you a break. If not a break from work or school, I pray that you will have a meaningful break from the heavy weight of sin. Daybreak on Easter and the empty tomb free us to be His people.

School News
Spring has become a time for travel and service at Walther. For the sixth consecutive year, students are headed to central Mexico to spend a week ministering to families at Casa Hogar de los Angeles, a charitable daycare for children of single mothers who must work and have nowhere else to leave their kids. These students were commissioned at our final Chapel service before the break. We pray that these students will truly be instruments of God in this setting. Pray for:
Gabby Mendez (graduate of Lincoln Middle School, Maywood)
Esther Nickels (graduate of St. John Lutheran School, Forest Park)
Will Jenkins (graduate of St. Paul Lutheran School, Melrose Park)
Jalisa Hinkle (graduate of St. John Lutheran School, Forest Park)

Bronco fans in Florida and Georgia will have a chance to see their “home team” in action this week. The Walther 9 will play baseball games at Lake Weir High School (Ocala), Canterbury High School (St. Petersburg) and St. John Lutheran School (Ocala), in the Sunshine State. The Broncos will also play Westover High School in Albany, Georgia. It would be great to have friends of the school contact the team. CLICK HERE for a full itinerary.
The Walther Lutheran Choirs toured the Carolinas, Kentucky and Indiana during Lutheran Schools Week. One of their stops was in Fort Wayne where they recorded a “Worship for Shut-Ins” program. Seen any good movies lately? Have you seen them at a Classic Cinema location? We have just received word that Trevor Murakami ‘03 has been named the General Manger at the York Theatre in Elmhurst. It’s the good old “Zimmer time.” Mike Zimmer ‘78 was in town. He’s been serving in the administration at Mayer Lutheran High School in Mayer, Minnesota, but in June will switch to a position as Assistant to the president for Congregational Services at the Minnesota South District of the LCMS. Mike dropped in to visit while he was in town to see his mom and his daughter, who is a junior in the Elementary Education department at Concordia University Chicago. Both of Mike’s daughters, Amanda and Stephanie, are good friends with Jenny Meier, kindergarten teacher at Walther Lutheran Academy @Forest Park.
If you are a C.S. Lewis fan, you will want to mark you calendar for a May 2008 visit to Milwaukee where Acacia Theatre’s Artistic Director, Walther alumna Janet Peterson ’77, is putting together a production of “Shadowlands.” Acacia’s performances of “Shadowlands” are May 9-18 in the Todd Wehr Auditorium at Concordia University Wisconsin.
God’s blessings
