Dear Parents,

Some would say we are in the final stretch of our school year. While the final month of this school year is only a couple of days away, the wisdom and truth gained at Walther should be by no means final. We facilitate a large portion of significant lifelong learning, but learning should not end.

I hope you are able to participate in the variety of events available in May. It is a month packed full of activities. As things really get busy, make sure you take time to reflect on the goodness of God's grace as He continues to lead. Rejoice in the Lord always!

Wednesday, May 1 is late arrival (9 a.m.) start for Help Sessions and Chapel. Thursday, May 2 is an 8 a.m. start day.

Mr. Korntheuer's Street Law class will be visiting Maybrook Court on Wednesday to get a first hand look at the court system. They will have an opportunity to visit with one of the presiding judges as well. Scholar students are taking a walking tour of Chicago on April 29. Dr. Kammrath (CURF) and Mrs. Kammrath will direct the day's activities.

Thursday, May 2, Our Spring Musical, "Brigadoon" will be performed for the grade schools. Students from Concord-Addison, St. Paul-Brookfield, St. Paul-Canfield, Bethlehelm-River Grove, Grace-River Forest, and Thurgood Marshall will join us for our two dress rehearsal performances. I hope you can attend the public performances on May 3 & 4 - 7:30 p.m. or May 5 - 3 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults and $2 for non-Walther students. A reserved seat Dinner/Theater performance is also held on May 4 beginning at 5:30 p.m. (Adults $20, Child $10) Monday, April 29 is the last day to reserve your seat. Call 630-495-4783 for details.

Friday, May 8 is application registration deadline in for the June 8 A.C.T. Test given at Walther. If you have questions about this, contact Mrs. Wentland.

Senior Dinner reservations were to be in last Friday to Mrs. Ward. This wonderful event has grown over the past years and has been a definite senior activity highlight. The Senior Dinner is May 11 at 6 p.m.

Rejoice with us! Mrs. Barb Korntheuer has been selected as the Chicagoland Lutheran Educational Foundation Good News Teacher of the Year. She will be honored at a banquet on May 3. Mrs. Korntheuer would never tell you, but she is indeed very deserving of this prestigious award. We are very proud of her. Don't forget to give her your personal congratulations.

Mr. William Koehne reports that junior student, Floyd Turner has set school track records in the shot-put and discus. Junior, Mark Reddel has set hurdle records. Congratulations to both on their outstanding individual achievements. If you can attend a track meet you will see lots of excitement. Highlights of all spring sports are available on our website.

Please include Mrs. Peggy Wolf, our school secretary in your prayers. She has had surgery and may not be back through the end our school year. Pray for a speedy recovery.

Miss Regina Jackson, our bookkeeper who has been out for medical leave, will be returning around the middle of May. Mrs. Muska has stepped in to perform her duties. You may have noticed a new look in the way your tuition bill appears. We hope this new format will help you to be better informed.

Progress Reports will be mailed home on May 7 for students that have below average grade of D or F in any of their courses. Now is the time to intervene if intervention is needed.

Students who were not able to register with their class for next year's courses will have another opportunity to register on May 15 (early dismissal 1:56 p.m.) if they have cleared the requirements for registration.

The Walther Board of Directors has announced the hiring of a contractor to build a new Science & Technology wing. The announcement of a date for ground breaking will follow soon. Now this is exciting news!

I'm pleased to announce that Concordia University's Provost, Dr. Manfred Boos will be this year's graduation speaker. His son Brian graduated from Walther a year ago. His daughter Heidi is a member of the class of 04.

Walther's new website makes its debut - Same address- New look! Check it out beginning in May. www.walther.com

May 17, 7:30 p.m. Spring Concert I. I know you will enjoy the band's performances.

The next few weeks will go quickly! Focus is needed to use the gifts God provides accordingly.
