"Two Roads Diverged in a wood, and I - I took the one less traveled by, and that has
made all the difference." - Robert Frost
In life, we are challenged every day. The world says to
go one way and our faith tells us to go another. This year's school theme, "Walking with God"
refers to the toilsome path that is life. It is easy to fall prey to the world, to do what everyone
else is doing, but when we look at our life, is that really what we need? I was asked to write a
paper on what Walther means to me, and I find it hard to summarize an experience, one that has
not only shaped my life, but has probably had the greatest impact on it, in just a few short pages.
Walther is more than a building, more than a place. It takes on different meanings to everyone,
and that's what makes it so unique. To me it is more than my school; it is my family and my
center. It is my second home, and I will always hold it close to my heart.
I started Walther 3 years ago as a young and anxious fi-eshman, it was a new environment
and I did not know what to expect. And while its size is relatively small, to me it was a jungle. I
had come from a small Lutheran grade school, and the shock of meeting 400 people I didn't
know was quite scary. After a few weeks, the adjustment went quite smoothly. I felt welcomed
and it was easy to become involved. I met my best friend within the first month of school, and I
have been nearly inseparable from her ever since. It's hard to look at something so objectively
and I'm sure that when I start college, a whole new chapter of my life, 1 will look back on my Walther experience retrospectively and realize even more so the great impact it has had on my
life.
Walther has become the center of my life, and I find myself spending the majority of my
time there. From tennis to yearbook, to basketball games and plays, it never really gets old. I
have learned to appreciate it for all its quirks; I love the feeling of community. Teachers know
all their students, and almost every face is a familiar one in the hallway. Things might get
around quickly, but I wouldn't have it any other way. It's easier to trust people in the faith
centered community that Walther is. With weekly chapel and religion class we not only learn
more about our religion, but we learn to appreciate it more every day. I know that Walther is
preparing me for this long journey called life. I know that my faith will keep me on track with
God, and I know that my education will help me succeed through out life. I have come to
appreciate Walther for all it means to me; my Walther has become my home. |
