Jenna Richardson continues hot streak with two super-breaker victories; Vikings women's tennis finishes 6th at UW-Whitewater Invitational 11 Sep 2006
WHITEWATER, Wis. - The Vikings women's tennis team competed in the UW-Whitewater Invitational in Whitewater , Wisconsin on Saturday, September 9.
Augustana finished sixth in the eight team field with eight team points. Host UW-Whitewater won the event with 41 points and was followed closely by UW-La Crosse (38 points). The Vikings finished ahead of UW-Stevens Point (6 points) and UW-Oshkosh (4 points).
Jenna Richardson (Walther Lutheran HS, Bellwood , Ill. ) added to her season victory total with two super-breaker victories in the number two singles flight. She defeated Emily Bouche of UW-Stevens Point in the first round (6-2, 3-6, (10-7)). In the semi-finals, Richardson upset second seeded Julie Tellefson of UW-La Crosse (2-6, 6-3, (10-7)). The great run finally came to an end in the finals with a (6-0, 6-2) loss to first seeded Jessie Farrar of UW-Whitewater.
Kaitlin Kulovitz ( Lincoln Way Central HS, New Lenox , Ill. ) picked up a win in the third singles flight in her first varsity action of the season. She defeated Blair Hubbard of UW-Oshkosh (6-2, 6-1) in the consolation bracket.
The third doubles team of Emily Doemland ( Downers Grove South HS, Westmont , Ill. ) and Holly Hiatt ( St. Charles East HS, St. Charles , Ill. ) also picked up a win, defeating Karen Halverson and Jamie Klemish of UW-Stevens Point (8-2) in the consolation bracket.
