Concordia Chicago's Kari Zielke Named Third-Team Regional Academic All-American

November 5, 2007 – Kari Zielke (Elmhurst, IL – Walther Lutheran H.S.), forward/midfielder for the Concordia University Chicago women’s soccer team, has been named as a third-team ESPN The Magazine District V (Midwest) Academic All-American by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America). Zielke’s honor marks the second consecutive year that she has received regional recognition from this organization.
Student-athletes qualifying for these honors must carry a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.2 on a 4.0 scale while achieving at least full-time sophomore status (freshmen and first-year transfers are not eligible) and making significant contributions to their team.
Zielke became the Cougar women’s all-time leading scorer this year, scoring 10 goals in 19 games to give her a career total of 41. She has led the Cougars in scoring in each of her first three seasons and earned all-conference mention in her freshman and sophomore seasons.
“Kari is an exemplary student-athlete who puts a lot of time and effort into whatever she does,” says Concordia head coach Adam Nirenberg. “She is a great quality individual, an extremely talented player, and I couldn’t be any prouder of her.”
Zielke is a junior elementary education major with a concentration in physical education and has a GPA of 3.94.
