Walther Lutheran High School students Lindsay Clauss and Frederick Rose II have been honored with a nomination for the prestigious Wendy's High School Heisman Award. The program, awarded in conjunction with the collegiate Heisman, celebrates the achievements of the nation's top high school seniors both in and out of the classroom.
Principal Stephen Zielke was pleased that these two promising leaders have been nominated for their academic aptitude, athletic talent and exceptional commitment to their school and community.
Clauss and Rose are both very involved at the Melrose Park school.
Clauss serves as an editor on the yearbook staff, competes on the tennis and softball teams and previously participated in basketball. She plays the flute in Walther's Wind Ensemble and has also earned membership in the National Honor Society and the Walther Scholars program.
Rose is a three season athlete, playing football, basketball and baseball. He is a trombonist in the Wind Ensemble and the Jazz Band, sings in the choir and with the Christian Minstrels, a touring vocal group. He is a member of the National Honor Society and is the Senior Class president.
Created in 1994, the Wendy's High School Heisman program, has been celebrating youth excellence for 13 years. The program consists of five phases - Nomination, State Finalists, State Winners, National Finalists and National Winners. Entries are initially evaluated by ACT Assessment during the State Finalist and State Winner phases and then passed on to a distinguished panel of judges. Twelve National Finalists are invited to participate in the Heisman weekend festivities during an all-expense paid trip to New York City on Dec. 8 to 10. ESPN2 will feature all 12 National Finalists during the Wendy's High School Heisman Awards Ceremony that airs on Dec. 10.
