Walther Lutheran High School will be sending students to a national forensic competition for the first time ever. Senior Louis McGhee of Maywood and junior Taneisha Prell of Lombard earned second place in Duo Interpretation at the Northern Illinois National Forensic League (NFL) District Tournament held at Glenbrook South High School in Glenview on March 1. This qualifies them for the NFL National Tournament to be held this June in Las Vegas.
This achievement marks a first for the Walther Forensics Team who has never before had an entry at this prestigious tournament. Walther Forensics coach, Ms. Lynette Welter, exclaimed, “Going to Nationals is a huge honor. We had hoped to do well, but we never dreamed we would actually qualify (for Nationals) on our first try. These kids are so talented and have worked so hard, it has been a blessing to coach them.”
The National Forensic League Honor Society promotes secondary school speech and debate activities and interscholastic competition as a means to develop a student’s lifelong skills and values, as well as the public’s awareness of the value of speech, debate, and communication education.
Walther Lutheran High School is a co-educational Christian school located at 9th and Chicago in Melrose Park.
