WALTHER JETS TEAM THIRD IN STATE, ADVANCES TO NATIONAL COMPETITION

Walther Lutheran High School physics teacher Ray Murphy took a number of students to the Junior Engineering and Technological Society (JETS) competition held at Triton College in River Grove on March 12. Seventeen schools sent representatives to the state wide event. The Walther JETS team finished third in the State of Illinois. This distinction has entered Walther in a national competition that is based on tests already taken by the team.
The JETS team at the Melrose Park Lutheran college preparatory school includes seniors Mitch Berg of Melrose Park, Megan Childs of Forest Park, Jalisa Hinkle of Chicago, Ted Roberson of Maywood and Caitlin Smith of Itasca, along with juniors Zach Cassity of Winfield, Bobby Hammond of Berkeley and Meredith Schaefer of Lombard.
JETS is a national non-profit educational organization dedicated to promoting engineering and technology careers to the nation's young people. Since 1950, JETS has been running academic competitions, providing educational activities and offering career guidance resources to excite students about careers in engineering and technology. JETS makes engineering "real," "relevant," and "fun" by helping students discover engineering for themselves and experience it first-hand.
Walther Lutheran High School is a co-educational Christian school located at 9th and Chicago in Melrose Park.
