WALTHER DEBUT MEDIA SHOW TO FEATURE STUDENT AND ALUMNI WORK

Walther Lutheran High School presents a Juried Media Show the weekend of November 2 through 4, 2007. This debut event will run concurrently with the school's fall drama production of “Romeo and Juliet.” Exhibition hours are 6:00 to l0:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday at the Melrose Park school, which is located at 9 th and Chicago Ave.

Student work will be judged in the following broad categories: photography, drawing and painting, ceramics, poetry, creative writing, journalism and multi-media. Student and alumni work will be exhibited for show or sale. A portion of any work sold will help support educational projects of Walther's Camera Club, Art Club and aura -- Walther's student published literary magazine.

Admission to the media show is free. “The Camera Club members are quite excited about this,” said Debra Funderwhite, the professional photographer who teaches students her craft via Camera Club, which is one of the college preparatory school's newest extracurricular offerings. Brittany Rzepka, a 2007 Walther graduate, has been invited to display some of the outstanding ceramic pieces she created as a student. She's even more excited for the opportunity to show her photography, a media Rzepka has just begun to work seriously in. Art teacher and Art Club advisor Jeff Carnehl and English teacher and aura supervisor Rachel Manske are both encouraging their classes to submit their creations. “We are really pushing for a variety of student work,” explained Lori Solyom, the school's public information coordinator. “We've involved the journalism and multi-media staff as well. This Media Show is a celebration of the creativity of the young people that currently go to school at Walther and a nod to the talents of those who have graduated and gone on to college and careers.”

Walther's goal is to present a Media Show as diverse and accomplished as the student body, currently made up of over 400 students from fifty-seven Chicago area zip codes. Walther Lutheran High School's emphasis on quality education, rich extracurricular offerings and abundant service opportunities has brought the school's students continued academic success. Walther graduates are counted as students and alumni at Big Ten and Ivy League schools, as well as institutions affiliated with nationwide church bodies and Illinois' state university system.
