MAYWOOD WALTHER SENIOR NAMED FINALIST IN
2007 NATIONAL ACHIEVEMENT PROGRAM

Lorenzo Patrick, senior, of Maywood, is a National Achievement Participant in the National Achievement Scholarship Program.

Walther Lutheran High School principal, Stephen Zielke, has announced that Lorenzo Patrick of Maywood has been named a National Achievement Program Finalist in the National Achievement Scholarship Program. This honor is based on Patrick’s scores on the 2005 preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT7) and puts him up for consideration as a National Achievement Scholar.

Patrick is an involved student at the Melrose Park school. He represents Walther athletically in football, track and field, and enjoys bowling. Patrick has been awarded the Degree of Excellence by the National Forensics League and was the 2006 Illinois High School Association Regional Champion in Prose Speaking. The Maywood teen has also earned membership in the National Honor Society and plays saxophone in Walther’s Wind Ensemble and Jazz Band.

The National Achievement Scholarship Program is an academic competition that provides recognition for outstanding black high school students. Students may enter both the National Achievement Program and the National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the PSAT/NMSQT7.

Patrick is one of almost 1,300 students who remain in line for potential selection as National Achievement Scholars. As Semifinalists, they were brought to the attention of about 1,500 four-year colleges and universities in the United States.

Walther Lutheran High School is a co-educational Christian school located at 9th and Chicago in Melrose Park. The school has an enrollment of just over 400 students from over fifty different Chicagoland zip codes.
