WALTHER PRESENTS SACRED CHORAL CONCERT IN WHEATON,
INSTRUMENTAL CONCERT IN MELROSE PARK
“Music washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life,” said 19th century German writer Berthold Auerbach. In the case of Walther Lutheran High School’s Sacred Concert, “Praise the Lamb,” on Sunday, March 9, music will allow the school choirs to shake off the dust of their spring tour in an appearance at St. John Lutheran Church in Wheaton. This event will be the second local offering in March from the Music Department at the college preparatory Lutheran school. One week previous, on Sunday, March 2, the Walther bands and instrumental ensembles will perform in concert at the high school in Melrose Park.
The March 2 Instrumental Concert at Walther Lutheran High School begins at 7 p.m. and features the Wind Ensemble, Concert Band, Jazz Band and String Ensemble. David Holsinger’s “On a Southern Hymnsong” will be among the performed selections.
The Sacred Concert on March 9 at St. John Lutheran Church in Wheaton is titled “Praise the Lamb” and is comprised of sacred compositions from Mozart and Bach, along with selections from the Robert Parker and Alice Shaw collaboration and arrangements by Bob Chilcott, Benjamin Britten, William Dawson and more. Walther Lutheran High School Choral director Lori Bormet calls this a "Tour Homecoming" concert for the A Cappella Choir, Christian Minstrels and Chamber Choir as they return from a performance tour across North Carolina, South Carolina, Kentucky and Indiana. The concert will also feature Walther’s Concert Choir and Gospel Choir.
There is no admission charge at either performance, but a free-will offering will be taken at each concert. St. John Lutheran Church is located at 125 East Seminary Avenue, 1 block east of Main Street and 2 blocks north of the railroad tracks, in Wheaton.
Walther Lutheran High School is a co-educational Christian school located at 900 Chicago Avenue, 1 block north of 9th Avenue and Lake Street, in Melrose Park. The school has an enrollment of just over 400 students from fifty-seven different Chicago area zip codes.
