Walther Baseball: Year Round Fun and Learning
High School Baseball
Walther has two high school teams during the IHSA season. Our indoor practice facility includes mounds, machines, instructional aids and two batting cages. The typical high school practice affords the player more than 200 quality swings everyday. There are no cuts from our program but "at bats" go to the most deserving players. Our gym is open at least three nights a week during the entire year. For serious players the emphasis is on core strength and quickness. Off season conditioning, keeping within the IHSA guidelines, is optional. Over the last 8 years the Varsity has won more than 160 games. Today, Bronco players are excelling at "the next level." Two grads are under contract with Major League teams, three are playing at D I schools and another is playing D III.
Summer Baseball
Walther organizes 3 different rosters in the summer: 18 & under, 15 & under, and a developmental team for players enrolled at Walther. Two of the last three years a team of Bronco players has played at Wrigley Field. This summer the Broncos will co-host two tourneys with Valparaiso University. As a service to the community baseball programs in our service area, we host 4 weekend round robin tourneys for 14 & under house league baseball teams. The winners of each week's four team tourney advances to a playoff series with all of the weekly winners. There is an entrance fee for this series. Additionally the Broncos host the Melrose Park Little League and The Chicago Browns semi pro team on our field.
Fall Baseball
Fall baseball is played through the Fox Valley Sports Academy. To see the schedule for the fall league visit Fox Valley Sports Academy.
Baseball Instruction
We provide players with three distinctive styles of instruction during the off season. During the Christmas break, Walther grads return from their next level baseball pursuits and share the knowledge they have picked up with tomorrow's players. These day long clinics, one for offense and one for defense, have the tag "Give it back Clinics." In January, Walther players earn school service hours helping younger players work on their swings in an all offensive instructional setting, titled the "Walther hitting clinics."
Walther is home to the Midwest Baseball Academy, when this professional organization brings its instructional experience to Western Cook County.
