Preseason Outlook

The Lady Broncos enter the 2007-2008 season with high expectations.  Last year they returned to Redbird Arena for the second consecutive year and brought back to Walther the 4th Place Trophy.  Entering this season, seven players return last years team:  Rebekah Fields, Jazzmyn Harvey, Ashley Simon, AshleyStrong, Emma Schmidt-Swartz, Dominique White, Shanelle Wright.  All seven players will play significant roles this year.  Rounding out the team are eight newcommers:  Natalie Holman, Olivia Jenkins, Amanda Lynch, Morgan Ransom, Chloe Rodriguez, Martha Ross, Rachel Solyom, and Cariluz Velez.  

The non-conference schedule is very similar to last year's.  The only changes include adding Immaculate Conception, and not playing St. Joseph's, Rockford Christian Life, and Von Steubben.  They return to the U-High Thanksgiving Tournament, and the Dixon Christmas Tournament.  This year they will be playing in the inaugural Private School League Tournament at the end of the season.

November 14, 2007 -Walther vs. Northside College Prep (U-High Thanksgiving Tournament )

The Lady Broncos opened the 2007-2008 campaign slow.  A poor first quarter saw the Lady Broncos down 4-14.  Over the next three quarters Walther put an emphasis on defense and went on to outscore Northside in each quarter to bring home a 47-42 victory in the opener.  Jazzmyn Harvey led all scorers with 25 points, Dominique added 14, and four other players were in the scoring column.

November 16, 2007 - Walther Lutheran vs. Seton Academy (U-High Thanksgiving Tournament)

After leading 29-14 at halftime, the Lady Broncos outscored Seton 18-5 in the 3rd quarter to put the game away.  Leading scorer was Dominique White with 24, Jazzmyn Harvey added 19, and Morgan Ransom added 12.

November 19, 2007 - Walther Lutheran vs. U-High (U-High Thanksgiving Tournament)

The Lady Bronces jumped out to a 16-5 first quarter lead, and lead 24-17 at half.  Walther put their focus on defense in the second half and had control of the game heading into the 4th quarter with a 42-27 lead.  Dominique White led Walther with 18 points, and Shanelle Wright added 12.

November 21, 2007 Walther vs St. Francis de Sales (U-High Thanksgiving Tournament)

The Lady Broncos used a 21-0 2nd quarter run to put the game away.  Shanelle Wright led Walther with 20 points, and Morgan Ransom had 14 points.  The Lady Broncos take on conference rival Chicago Christian in the championship game Friday.

November 23, 2007 Walther vs Chicago Christion(U-High Thanksgiving Tournament, CHAMPIONSHIP GAME)

1st Place

This game saw the only two remaining undefeated teams in the U-High Tournament take each other on in the championship game.  At the end of the first quarter, the Lady Broncos held a narrow 16-14 lead.  At half the Lady Broncos led 24-16.  Walther then outscored Chicago Christian 36-15 in the 2nd half to bring home a 60-31 victory.  Jazzmyn Harvey contributed 21 points, and Dominique White and Shanelle Wright added 12.  All-Tournament players for Walther were:  Jazzmyn Harvey, Dominique White, and Shanelle Wright.

November 27, 2007 - Walther vs Driscoll Catholic

A poor effort in the 1st and 3rd quarters allowed Driscoll to outscore the Lady Broncos by a total of 24 points in those two quarters.  The Highlanders defeated Walther 47-71.  Morgan Ransom led Walther with 13, Dominique White had 12, and Jazzmyn Harvey and Shannelle Wright had 11.  The Lady Broncos look to rebound against Westminster.

November 29, 2007 - Walther at Westminster

In the Private School League opener, the Lady Broncos outscored Westminster by 13 in the 2nd quarter, and then held them to 4 points total in the 2nd half.  Walther cruised to a 64-19 victory.  Jazzmyn Harvey led Walther with 21  points, and Morgan Ransom added 13.

December 4, 2007 - Walther at Lemont

The Lady Broncos continue a stretch of inconsisten basketball.  After leading at halftime 16-13, Walther was outscored 12-31 in the second half and lost 29-44.  Jazzmyn Harvey led Walther with 11.

December 6, 2007 - Walther vs Luther South

In their second PSL Conference game, the Lady Broncos wore out an energetic and athletic Luther South team and won 74-38.  Shanelle Wright led Walther with 19, and Jazzmyn Harvey added 19.

December 9, 2007 - Walther at Reed Custer

At strong 1st quarter, and hitting free throws down the stretch allowed the Lady Broncos to leave Braidwood with a 57-48 victory.  Jazzmyn Harvey led Walther with 17, Dominique White had 15, and Morgan Ransom had 10.

December 11, 2007 - Walther vs Timothy Christian

The Lady Broncos ran their conference record to 3-0 with a 67-52 victory over Timothy.  Jazzmyn Harvey led Walther with 19, Shanelle Wright added 16, and Dominique White had 14.

December 15, 2007 - Walther at Aurora Christian

A very good Aurora Christian team played the Lady Broncos tough in this afternoon match up, but Walther was able hang on for a 61-57 victory.  Shanelle Wright led Walther with 24, and Jazzmyn Harvey added 13.

December 27, 2007 - Walther vs Dunlap At Dixon Christmas Tournament

Walther opened the tournament with an exciting 57-56 victory.  Dominique White led the Lady Broncos with 15, Shanelle Wright had 13, and Jazzmyn Harvey and Morgan Ransom had 12.

Dec. 28, 2007 - Walther vs Sterling At Dixon Christmas Tournament

Walther went up against an opponent who went downstate last year in AA, only to lose to Fenwick in the first round.  In a very tough, and physical game, the Lady Broncos lost to Sterling 68-74.  The game was partly decided at the free throw line.  Sterling finished the game 25/37, and Walther finished the game 8/20.  Dominique White led Walther with 23, Jazzmyn Harvey had 16, Morgan Ransom had 13, and Emma Schmidt-Swartz had 10.

December 29, 2007 - Walther vs Stillman Valley At Dixon Christmas Tournament

After trailing 39-44 going into the 4th, Walther pulled out a 58 to 56 victory over Stillman Valley.  Jazzmyn Harvey led Walther with 22, and Dominique White had 10.

December 29, 2007 - Walther vs. Rockford Boylan At Dixon Christmas Tournament

This game was like every game at the tournament, with the Lady Broncos were losing going into the fourth quarter.  Walther outscored Rockford Boylan 18-7 in the 4th quarter to win 52-43 and finish 5th out of 16 teams.  Jazzmyn Harvey and Dominique White were named to the all tournament team.  Shanelle Wright finished the game with 15 points, Emma Schmidt-Swartz finished with 14, and Jazzmyn Harvey had 10.

January 3, 2008 - Walther vs Byron

In a very good basketball game, the Lady Broncos defeated a tough Byron team 65-62.  Morgan Ransom hit two free throws with under five seconds to go to give Walther a 3 point lead.  Dominique White had 16, Shanelle Wright had 13, Morgan Ransom had 11, and Jazzmyn Harvey had 10.

January 5, 2008 - Walther vs Trinity

After trailing by 12 at halftime, the Lady Broncos battled back to get it to 8 points with about 3 minutes to go in the 3rd Quarter.  Foul trouble was costly for Walther as Trinity was able to pull away with a 48-75 victory.  Shanelle Wright and Dominique White had 10 for the Lady Broncos.

Walther vs Chicago Christian

In a rematch from the U-High Thanksgiving Tournament, the Lady Broncos came back from a 3 point halftime deficit and outscored the Knights 40-19 in the second half to bring home a 61-43 conference victory.  Jazzmyn Harvey led Walther with 17, and Emma Schmidt-Swartz had 12.

Walther vs Wheaton Academy

Walther jumped out to a 25-6 first quarter lead and defeated a short handed Warrior team 71-47.  Constant defensive pressure allowed Walther to pull away.  Jazzmyn Harvey, Dominique White, and Chloe Rodriguez led Walther with 14 points each.

Walther at Immaculate Conception

In a tough game between the Lady Broncos and the Knights, Walther relied upon a well-balanced scoring attack to come away with a victory.  Shanelle Wright led Walther with 15, Emma Schmidt Swartz had 12, and Dominique White had 10.

Walther at Luther North

In a heated conference game, the Lady Broncos were able to come back from a 36-38 fourth quarter deficit to defeat Luther North 58-52.  Jazzmyn Harvey had 16, and Dominique White had 12.

Walther at Lisle

With a focus on defense for this game, the Lady Broncos were able to use their defense to get some easy baskets.  Jazzmyn Harvey had 20, Morgan Ransom had 11, and Shanelle Wright had 10 in this 59-28 victory over the Lions.

Walther vs. Illiana Christian

The Lady Broncos closed out an undefeated regular season PSL Championship in dramatic fashion on parent/senior day.  Trailing 33-47 going into the 4th, and trailing 13 with just over 3 minutes to go, they came back to tie the game and send it into overtime.  Walther then outscored Illiana 3-0 in overtime to win 57-54.  Emma Schmidt-Swartz had 16, Jazzmyn Harvey had 13, and Shanelle Wright had 12.

Walther vs. Luther South - PSL Tournament 1st round Game

In the opening game of the PSL tournament for the Lady Broncos, they cruised to a 74-37 victory over Luther South.  Jazzmyn Harvey led all scorers with 29.  Shanelle Wright had 12, and Morgan Ransom had 11.

Walther vs. Illiana Christian - PSL Tournament Semi-Final Game

In a rematch from Senior/Parent Night, Illiana returned to Walther's gym for the PSL semi-final game.  A solid 1st quarter, and a good 2nd quarter had the Lady Broncos up at half 36-22.  Walther then hung on for a 59-51 victory.  Emma Schmidt-Swartz had 17, and Jazzmyn Harvey had 12.

Walther vs. Wheaton Academy - PSL Tournament Championship Game

This game turned out to be what is expected out of a champtionship game.  The Lady Broncos led at the end of the first 13-12, and at halftime 28-27.  Wheaton Academy had the game tied going into the fourth.  The Lady Broncos then outscored Wheaton Acadmy 18-10 in the 4th to take the victory 53-45.  Emma Schmidt-Swartz led all scorers with 17, and Jazzmyn Harvey had 14.  After the game the PSL All Conference Team was announced.  First team PSL were:  Jazzmyn Harvey, Shanelle Wright, and Dominique White.  Honorable Mention was Emma Schmidt-Swartz, and Morgan Ransom was Special Mention.
