August 26 vs. Elmwood Park
The Bronco tennis team has secured a victory in their first match of the season on August 26th with a varsity “sweep” over Elmwood Park HS. Winning players include Deanna Richardson 6-1, 6-1(#1 singles), Allison Korenchan 6-2, 6-1 (#2 singles), Stephanie Garcia and Louise Grant 6-2, 6-2 (#1 doubles), Erika Bredehoft and Jennifer Buenrostro 6-2, 6-4 (#2 doubles), with Kate Jaruseski and Eme Abbe 6-4, 6-1 (#3 doubles).
At the J/V level Emma Renteria #1 singles had a tough match that went 0-6, 4-6 while Betsy Jaruseski at #2 singles won 6-1, 6-0. An additional win at #3 singles was accomplished by Caitlin Kimminau 6-1, 6-2 while, Kim Bainter and partner Becca Duff won at #2 doubles 6-3, 6-1 as did Nikki and Alex Cummta at #1 doubles 6-2, 1-6, 9-7. Congratulations to all.

August 27 vs. Argo
The Broncos took on Argo HS on Wednesday, August 27th and posted another team win at both varsity and J/V levels. With only one loss out of 11 matches played, the Lady Broncos really took care of the “Argonauts”.
Moving from a doubles slot to play #1 and #2 singles J/V were Erika Bredehoft and Jennifer Buenrostro (respectively) and sliding into the vacated doubles #2 position at varsity were Meredith Schaefer and Tani Prell. Congratulations Broncos on a great start to the season with the team now at 2 wins and 0 losses.

August 28 vs. Montini
On August 28 th the Broncos of Walther improved their overall record to 3 wins and no losses. On their third day in a row of match play, the team met Montini Catholic and both the Varsity and the JV came out ahead. Varsity 4-1 and the J/V 5-0.
The match of the day for the varsity level was at #1 doubles with Louise Grant and Stephanie Garcia winning a tight match by a score of 5-7 in the first set, 7-6 (tie breaker 7-5) in the second set, and another tie breaker, 7-4, for the win. Deanna Richardson, Allison Korenchan (both at singles) and Kate Jaruseski with Eme Abbe at doubles also won! CONGRATULATIONS

September 3 vs. Trinity
The Bronco varsity tennis team suffered their first defeat of the season against Trinity on Wednesday at Keystone Park in River Forest by a score of 1-4. The solo winners for the day at varsity were 3 rd doubles, Tani Prell and Meredith Schaefer. (6-0, 6-4) Eme Abbe and Kate Jaruseski lost a close two setter (4-6, 5-7) while Deanna Richardson went to a tiebreaker before her loss.
The JV team remained undefeated against Trinity to improve their standing to 4-0. Great job JV!

September 9 vs. Wheaton Academy
Although both the Varsity and the JV teams lost their matches to Wheaton, there were some fine performances on a number of courts. All of Walther's singles players at both levels won! Allison Korenchan rose to the occasion and won in three sets (2 hours and 40 minutes) by a score of 2-6, 7-5, 6-3. Deanna Richardson at #2 singles won her match 6-0, 6-2. Both JV singles players, Erika Bredehoft and Jennifer Buenrostro won in straight sets. The exhibition doubles match played by Meredith Schaefer and Caitlin Kimminau also came out in the “plus” column for the Broncos.

September 11 vs. Rockford Lutheran
The Broncos came through with a 3–2 win over the Crusaders of Rockford Lutheran. With a shift in the lineup, Stephanie Garcia played at the tough first singles position and Louise Grant took on an opponent at the number two slot. Allison Korenchan and Deanna Richardson teamed up to play number one doubles and our regular #2 and #3 doubles team help their normal positions. Lousie, Allison, Deanna, Meredith Schaefer and Tani Prell were all varsity winners to move the teams season record to 4 and 2.
JV players who won yesterday against Rockford were Kim Bainter, and Betsy Jaruseski. 2-0 The JV team is now 5-1 on the year.

September 16 vs. Illiana Christian
This match was a really hard fought, and competitive one. While the WLHS team played hard the group could not quite pass the Knights of Illiana in the team totals. Walther 2 / Illiana 3. The two winning courts for the varsity were #2 singles and #1 doubles. Congratulations to Deanna Richardson, Stephanie Garcia and Louise Grant.
The JV team kept their streak alive with another “sweep” at 5-0. Great job girls.

September 17 vs. Lisle H.S.
The Bronco varsity tennis players came back strong against Lisle High School to chalk up a 4-1 win. Allison Korenchan, #1 singles won 7-5, 6-4…. Deanna Richardson, #2 singles also won 6-0, 6-0 ….. Louise Grant and Stephanie Garcia at #1 doubles won 7-5, 6-3 …Kate Jaruseski and Eme Abbe had a tough road in their 5-7, 6-3, (1-7) loss …. while Tani Prell and Meredith Schaefer 6-0, 6-4 brought the team to a 4-1 team victory.
The JV team added another victory, 5-0, to their record to bring them to 7 wins and 1 loss for the season so far….WOW ! Nice work girls! Those JV victors include Jennifer Buenrostro and Erika Bredehoft at #1 and #2 singles, Kim Bainter and Rebecca Duff (#1 doubles), Nikki and Alex Cummuta (#2 doubles), and Betsy Jaruseski with Emma Renteria (#3 doubles). Caitlin Kimminau also played a tough singles match.

September 19 vs. St. Joseph
Walther took on St. Joe’s here at our home courts and had an easy time in completing the match with a 5 -0 win Allison Korenchan (6-2, 6-0), Deanna Richardson (6-0, 6-0), Stephanie Garcia and Louise Grant (6-0, 6-1), Eme Abbe and Kate Jaruseski (6-0, 6-0), Tani Prell and Meredith Schaefer (6-0, 6-0).
All JV players swept their match as well. NICE WORK BRONCOS !!

September 23 vs. Timothy Christian
The Broncos fell short of the victory at Timothy by a close 2-3 margin. Winners for the Broncos were both #1 and #2 singles: Allison Korenchan (7-5, 3-6, 6-4) and Deanna Richardson (6-4, 6-0).
Bright spot for the Frosh Soph team is that their 4-1 win over Timothy moves them to a season record of 9 wins and 1 loss. Congratulations to all.

September 29 Reavis Quadrangular Tournament
The Broncos tennis team showed a good team effort on Saturday as they scored points enough to win the second place spot at Reavis. Two singles and three doubles positions were entered by all four schools at the tournament. (Reavis, Marist, Queen of Peace and Walther)
Finishing in first place as a team was Marist, followed by Walther in second, with Queen of Peace in third and Reavis in fourth.
Allison Korenchan took third at #1 singles, while Deanna Richardson took second place at #2 singles.
Doubles players finished in 2nd (Stephanie Garcia and Louise Grant), 4th (Kate Jaruseski and Eme Abbe) and 3rd (Tani Prell and Meredith Schaefer)

October 1 vs. Fenton
It was a fun day for the Broncos as they took apart Fenton HS in this dual match with the score of 4-1. Four winning positions for the varsity team include: Deanna Richardson at #1 singles 6-0, 6-1 (moving up due to Allison’s illness), at #2 singles Jennifer Buenrostro 6-0, 6-1, #2 doubles Eme Abbe and Kate Jaruseski 7-5, 6-3, and at #3 doubles Tani Prell and Meredith Schaefer 6-1, 6-1.
The JV team also won 4-1. Erika Bredehoft, Kim Bainter, Becca Duff, Nikki Cummuta, Alex Cummuta, Betsy Jaruseski, Emma Renteria and Caitlin Kimmina were all winners.

October 2 vs. Riverside Brookfield
The Walther varsity fell 1-4 against a tough Riverside Brookfield team. The solo winner for the Broncos at this level was Jennifer Buenrostro who moved up from her regular JV position to fill in for illnesses. Jennifer won in straight sets , 6-4, 6-0
The JV team still pulled out a victory 3-2. With doubles wins from Nikki and Alex (twice in one day) and Betsy and Emma.

October 8 vs. Chicago Christian
The Broncos completed their conference season of play with a victory, at both varsity and JV levels, over the Knights of Chicago Christian HS. Singles players at both levels dominated the competition. #1 Allison Korenchan 6-1, 6-2 …. #2 Deanna Richardson 6-0, 6-0 …… #1 JV Jennifer Buenrostro 8-1 ….#2 JV Erika Bredehoft 8-0. The winning doubles combinations for the Broncos were Stephanie Garcia and Louise Grant(varsity #1) 6-3, 6-2 …… and. …..Betsy Jaruseski and Emma Renteria (JV #3) 8-5. Congratulations girls !!

October 9 vs. Aurora Central Catholic
The Broncos won a lop-sided victory over the Aurora Central Catholic tennis team on October 9. Wins piled up on every court.

October 11 PSL Conference Varsity Tournament
This was a historic tournament because it closes out the competition that we have enjoyed in the Private School League. This conference is being disbanded after many, many years of good relationships between our sister Christian High Schools.
This spirit of good competitive tennis was the rule at our tournament for the varsity on Saturday, Oct. 11th. Walther came through with one CHAMPIONSHIP court as Deanna Richardson won 1st place at #2 singles. Other finishes were not quite as strong and the team as a whole finished in 4th place.

October 14 vs. Leyden
Both the Varsity and the JV teams defeated Leyden HS in the final dual match of the season at Leyden East and West. The JV team won by the score of 5 – 1 and the varsity took home a 3 – 2 win. Close matches with plenty of long points and tie-breakers finally went our way as the Broncos won at #1 singles (Allison Korenchan: 6-4, 6-1) #2 singles (Deanna Richardson : 6-1, 6-0) and #3 doubles (Tani Prell and Meredith Schaefer : 6-4, 7-6 with a tie breaker score of 8-6).
At JV winners include #1 singles (Jennifer Buenrostro : 6-1, 6-2 ) #2 singles Erika Bredehoft : 6-0, 6-3) #1 doubles (Kim Bainter and Becca Duff : 6-3, 2-6, 7-4) #2 doubles (Alex Cummuta and Nikki Cummuta : 7-5, 6-1 ) and #3 doubles Emma Renteria and Betsy Jaruseski : 6-3, 7-5) Additionally Caitlin Kimminau played at the #3 singles slot and almost pulled off a close first set win: 7-8, 1-6.
Congratulations girls on both levels for the strong finish to a good season.
