News from China on the Net

Some good places to keep track on what is topical and what is policy in China are Xinhua (China's news service), China.org (government site), China Daily (the leading English language paper), and a trio of China's popular internet search engines that offer English versions.

Xinhua.org is China's Reuters/CBS/PBS all rolled into one.  Covers a wide range of topics and issues.  Lots of stories and items.

China.org is where to go to find out about the government's policies and programs.  This is where the "official words" and white papers are to be found. Detailed explorations of some of China's cultural items can also be found here.

ChinaDaily.com is geared for the outlanders who like lighter news.  A major attraction is the list of forums in which one can discuss topics of the day with Chinese readers.

Tom.com English home page offers over two dozen different topics--news, heritage, IT, jokes...--to explore.  All nicely laid out.

General Information

China Site is the mother of all general information sites on people, media and things Chinese.  Although a number of the links have expired and some of them take you to a Chinese language, search China Site is more often than not a rewarding venture.

Marjorie Chan's China Links  is a good place to start to look for a wide range of information about China, be it politics, culture or just about anything else.  Click on the hyper-linked selections in the 1. Search Eng., Chin. Stud., E-Texts, & Netnews section at the bottom of the webpage.

China on the Net has a long list of links to a wide range web sites dedicated to topics with a China focus.  Sources range from both the Chinese and US government to general and special interests of other folk.
