W.Y.S.E
is an acronym for World Wide Youth Science and Engineering competition.
The competition is organized by various colleges, universities,
and engineering societies to discover academically talented students
that MAY have the potential to do well in scientific or engineering
related careers. Students who do well in these competitions are
often sought out by prestigious colleges and universities for scholarships.
Indeed, the mere fact that you have the courage to compete with
the best students in your region, district, and if you make it that
far - state, is something you can put on your college application
that will make the reader of your application sit up and take notice.
Numerous students in the past have done so well at the regional
levels that they made it downstate - one even taking first place
downstate in physics.
The
competition starts during the spring at Triton with tests in biology,
chemistry, physics, math, computer fundamentals, engineering graphics,
and English. These tests are made very challenging on purpose -
on the level of an A.P. test. It is in the opinion of many that
these tests are good practice for the AP test you will take.
