JOHNATHAN RILEY'S AWARD-WINNING POETRY

THE FIGHT
My mind is racing, sweat is dripping off of my chin.
It's that time; the prize fight, me vs the conductor of sin.
Ding ding ding, just like that, the bell sounds,
And the battle began.
Risking it all for my family, and my life, and my friends.
This guy came out swinging no games letting me have.
Caught me with a nice shot now I sit there gasping and gasping attempts of grasping the
air
My attempts are in vain in the depths of hell or Satan's lair.
I start to lose focus, my back's to the mat
He pulls a gun, not fair at all
Then he fires pac pac, smack smack
Both bullets race through my head, now that's it the fights over
Another hero is dead.
I'd lost it all in that fight that's it, my life's over
Just then the fiery pits were extinguished.
Then things started to sober.
Replanted my feet,
Stood my ground,
Again ready to fight,
Then I see a man with a crown.
"I am the king of kings here in the root of all evil,"
Heard with the sounds of democracy.
Meaning the voice of all people.
His power was massive, ways were miraculous,
He spoke blows unto the devil,
Shouting "no, I'm not having this,"
It turns out this was the guy I tried to follow my whole life,
Now illumination reigned, once again I was saved by the light.
