JOHNATHAN RILEY'S AWARD-WINNING POETRY

UNTITLED
This is it; it's almost over,

Time is ticking now,

A verbal warning is screamed out,

My heart stops to accept this sound,

I stand there on my side,

Enemies dare me to cross that line,

Why am I nervous, what are they thinking,

My mind becomes fogged by pride,

"I'm beast among these boys,

These guys can't stop me,

I'm about to take out everyone,

They know me, I'm J. Riley."

But quickly I come out of the daze,

Snap back to reality,

Deep breathes to calm muscles,

The pressure was like 1000 times gravity.

Slight motion is made by the enforcer on our team,

I move with him to ensure that all was in the green,

Once again my mind wonders and I know I can't think too much,

If I do it's like driving a stick,

And not using the clutch,

Hut, involuntarily I make the quickest move in my life,

Robotically go to my zone,

Following my orders on this Friday night,

The enforcer hands me a package,

Gives me no words of wisdom,

Then again I don't need them

I take off gaining momentum.

I make a sharp cut away from an obstacle,

Hurdle another in the way,

Then make a tight spin from one more,

I see the light of day,

Then that was interrupted, by what we may call and eclipse,

There was no shaking this guy

His eyes were fixed on my hips.

With no other option I had to drop my shoulder,

I demand to make it through,

He gets even lower, now what should I do,

With one last thought I make a sketchy decision,

With one last effort I leap over his vision,

Gliding through the air,

People watching in awe,

I land, my sight goes black but I hear an uproar of applause,

I come back to earth stand and picture this,

On the scoreboard, no time but home points go up by six.
