2008 CLOSE UP TRIP INFO

2006 DAILY TRIP BLOG with PHOTOS -- CLICK HERE!

The Close Up trip is scheduled every two years at Walther. It is a trip to Washington, DC, and is organized by the Close Up Foundation, in conjunction with faculty advisors, to provide students with a "close up" look at our nation's government. Students travel to Washington, DC, where they join other high school students from around the country for five to seven days. By providing students with firsthand experience, this trip encourages students to become active and involved citizens of America and the world.

Eligibility - Juniors and seniors are eligible to participate. They must sign a behavior agreement which, if broken, results in their removal from the program.

Student Responsibility - Since Close Up is a biannual event/activity, there are no student officers. Students who wish to supplement their expenses do so through the independent sale of Entertainment Books or through solicitation of businesses and organizations.

Supervision - In addition to organizing and running the necessary pre-travel meetings with parents and students, the faculty advisor is responsible for meeting the students at the airport on the day of departure from Chicago. In addition, (s)he is responsible for getting the students back to the airport for the return trip to Chicago. In Washington, DC, the faculty advisor is responsible for planning and supervising any free time that is no scheduled by the Close Up organization as part of the program.
