Galatians 3:26-29
In the early days of the Church, the Jews thought all Gentiles were unclean and they wanted to stay separate from them. Peter was told by God to visit a Gentile Centurion. God said in Acts 10:15 that "Do not call anything impure that God has made clean." While visiting the Centurion, Peter told them in Acts 10:34 that he believed that God did not show favoritism. He believed then that all could share what Jesus came to bring. While Peter was speaking the Holy Spirit came upon all those heard the message. In Acts 11:17, upon his return to Jerusalem , Peter told the Jews that "God gave them (the Gentiles) the same gift as he gave us (the Jews), who believed in the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I to think that I could oppose God?"
So then in his letter to the Galatians, Paul told the Church that all can be saved through faith in Christ Jesus no matter what their nationality, Jew or Gentile, man or woman. But also that they need not follow the Jewish laws as Christ forgives all of us who have faith.
The lesson is that we are all equal in God's eyes. It doesn't matter where we are from or what race we are, for we are all equal through faith in Jesus Christ.
Dear God, we pray so that we may be able to know that all who have faith in Jesus Christ are equal though their faith in Him. Amen. |
