This year we have learned a lot about being members of one body. Maybe you have figured out your spiritual gift and how you can use it. Or maybe you aren't excited by your gift and don't think you can use it to do anything important for the body. It's important that even if your gift or job seemed unglamorous and boring, that you still do your job with joy.
An example of one such important “unglamorous“ job is an offensive lineman in football. The offensive lineman work hard to pave the way for the quarterback and running backs successes. Still most of the credit for winning is given to the flashier-backs and receivers. It would be easy for the linemen to envy their teammates fame and stop working as hard. But, instead of being jealous and complaining about how much less glory they receive, the linemen continue to perform their job because it is essential for the team's success. Even though the public might not idolize the Linemen, their teammates have a great amount of appreciation for them. In fact, many NFL quarterbacks and running backs buy their offensive line gifts after the season to show their appreciation for them. Like wise, God rewards us for doing his work and says in Ephesians 6:7-8 to, “serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not men, because you know that the Lord will reward everyone for whatever good he does, whether he is slave or free.” Therefore, we should always use our spiritual gifts to serve the body of Christ.
Please pray with me:
Lord, please help us as we try to strengthen the body of Christ. Please open opportunities for us to use our spiritual gifts and prepare us to serve with joy. Amen |
