Goals
What are some of your goals? Is one to get straight A's this semester? Is it to become a lawyer some day? Is it to become an all-state athlete? Or maybe just make the varsity squad? Whatever your goals may be, do you work hard to achieve them? Philippians 3:13-14 says, "Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus." Sometimes we can find ourselves looking at some of our goals and thinking, "Maybe I'm just never going to be able to be a state champ, or maybe I am just not smart enough to become a lawyer or a doctor." When we think like this we forget what Matthew 19:26 tells us, when Jesus in this verse says, "With man this is impossible but with God all things are possible." God wants us to work and press on towards our goals. He wants us to use our abilities that He has given us to achieve these goals.
The big thing He wants for us is to achieve the ultimate goal, going to heaven. He wants us to pray and ask him for forgiveness. This can actually be a more challenging goal nowadays with so many things distracting and leading us so many other ways, but we should always focus on our goal of everlasting life with God in heaven.
Let us pray: Dear Lord help us to achieve our goals. Allow us to use our abilities to the full potential in which you intended. And please help us to always focus on the ultimate goal, to spend eternity with you in heaven. In Jesus' name we pray, Amen. |
