Worrying

I know this person who worries about everything: and not just sometimes, constantly. He worries about possibly injuring himself, worries that police are after him for miniscule things such as making prank phone calls; he worries that he is going to contract rare diseases from people or animals around him. He is even worried about playing sports for fun, because he is afraid he might start to like those sports more than the sport in which he is involved on a very competitive level.

Now, this is an extreme example, but everyone does worry about things from time to time, like an upcoming test, or a big important football game or tennis match. Worrying just comes naturally to us. However, it would be in our best interest to spend less time worrying. Worrying is a huge waste of time!

God assures us in Matthew 6:25-27 that he will take care of all our needs. "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly father feeds them. Are you not much more important than they? Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?"

Let us pray: Dear Lord,

You know how easy it is for us to get caught up in worry in this stressful world. Please help us to focus more on you, and trust that you will provide for us. Amen
