Whatever Is Lovely...Think About Such Things

What do you think about when I say the word lovely? Do you think about a celebrity? Or a painting? Do you think about the music that you enjoy listening to, or that special person that you pass in the halls everyday? About two weeks ago, we celebrated Christmas, and while I'm sure that you received many lovely gifts, years and years ago, God gave us the most wonderful and beautiful gift of all, Jesus Christ. It was by God's grace, mercy, and love that He gave His only son to be born as a baby boy, and endure the humiliation of being human, and to eventually be crucified on the cross. As people living in a sinful world, we often take little notice to inner beauty and focus on physical appearances. In Philippians 4:8, God tells us to think about lovely things. Although that actor in your favorite movie may seem attractive, we should focus our thoughts on the most lovely and magnificent thing of all, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and the salvation that he has brought us.

Let's Pray

Dear God,

Thank you so much for giving your only son so that He could save us from our sins. Please help us to not overlook the beauty that is within and to focus on what is truly lovely in your eyes. Amen.
