Attendance Reporting

The Attendance Policy:

All Walther Christian Academy students need to attend class daily. Reading the assigned material and performing satisfactorily on tests does not compensate for the loss of insight gained during class discussion or the loss of competency acquired through explanation, practice and class discussion.

ABSENCES
Walther Christian Academy uses an online attendance portal to provide families with a simple and consistent way to report student absences.

REPORTING AN ABSENCE
When a student will be absent, the parent or legal guardian must:

● Visit the Walther Student Attendance Portal using the link on the school website.
● Submit the absence report before 9:00 a.m. on the day of the absence whenever possible.
● Provide the requested student and parent or guardian information.
● Enter the date of the absence and the reason the student will not attend school.
● Upload supporting documentation when requested or required.
● Submit a separate report for each student who will be absent.
● Contact Student Services if the family needs assistance completing the form.

Submitting an absence report does not automatically excuse the absence. Student Services will review the information and apply the appropriate attendance code in PowerSchool.

AFTER AN ABSENCE IS REPORTED
After the form is submitted:

● The report will be sent to Student Services for review.
● Student Services will compare the report with the student’s arrival record and PowerSchool attendance record.
● The absence will be marked with the appropriate code after the information has been reviewed.
● Student Services may contact the parent or guardian if information or documentation is missing.
● PowerSchool will remain the official record of the student’s attendance.

ABSENCES NOT REPORTED BY 9:00 A.M.
If a student is marked absent and the school has not received an absence report by 9:00 a.m.:

● The absence will appear on the school’s unverified absence list.
● SchoolMessenger will automatically call and email the student’s parent or guardian.
● The notification will state that the student has been recorded as absent.
● The family will be directed to the Walther Student Attendance Portal to report the absence.
● If the student was expected to be at school, the parent or guardian must contact Student Services immediately.
● Student Services will follow up when the family does not respond, the student’s location cannot be verified, or there is a safety concern.
● The absence will remain unexcused or pending until Student Services receives and verifies the required information.

PARENT AND GUARDIAN RESPONSIBILITIES
Parents and guardians are responsible for:

● Reporting each absence promptly through the online portal.
● Providing complete and accurate information.
● Responding promptly to calls or emails from SchoolMessenger or Student Services.
● Submitting required medical or other supporting documentation.
● Reviewing PowerSchool regularly for attendance accuracy.
● Contacting Student Services promptly if an attendance record appears incorrect.

Repeated unreported absences, excessive absences, or patterns of attendance concerns may result in a parent conference, an attendance improvement plan, Bronco System intervention, or additional administrative action.
