String Program

Students will have the opportunity to participate in group lessons approximately twice a month, with the exception of Monday Night String Students, who meet weekly. All group lessons are at Walther Lutheran High School at 900 Chicago Avenue in room 103 on Monday evenings. Students are divided into three groups:

Beginning Students (BST) meet on selected Mondays from 5:30-6:15 pm: This group is for students who are starting an instrument for the first time. This class is designed to reinforce posture and positioning learned at their lessons, introduce note reading concepts and ensemble playing skills.

Intermediate Strings (IST) meet on selected Mondays from 5:30-6:15: This group is for students with at least one year of study. This class is designed to further develop ensemble skills by playing Suzuki repertoire. Students will also advance their note reading skills by being able to recognize pitches, correlate them to fingerings, and become more fluent in rhythmic reading.

Monday Night Strings (MNS) meet every Monday from 6:30-7:10: This group is for students who have been studying at least two years, are comfortable reading notes, or at the director’s recommendation. This group will rehearse every week and will study music in a traditional ensemble format.

Please see the calendar below and make careful notes of the dates and times your student is involved in rehearsal.

Concert Information and Dates: All students will perform as a large group. They will be at an area grade school or church. ATTIRE: white or light-colored top with black or navy skirt/pants unless otherwise directed. Dress shoes, please. Please arrive promptly 30 minutes before the concert begins or as requested.
