Kirsten Steiner, Walther Class of 2020, is a recent graduate of Concordia University Wisconsin where she earned a B.S. in Nursing. Her high level of success in the nursing program led her to be invited into Sigma Theta Tau, the international honor society of nurses.

Kirsten works on the Neurosurgery ICU floor at Aurora St. Luke’s, Milwaukee. “Growing up I thought I wanted to be a doctor because I wanted to help people,” Kirsten explained. “When I was a freshman at Walther, my biology teacher, Mrs. Ernst, suggested that I consider nursing. I am so glad she did. In my position I am assigned only two patients a day, so I am able to make a better connection than a doctor who sees a couple dozen patients a day.” Patients come from throughout the state to receive specialized care for strokes, seizure disorders, brain tumors, and brain aneurysms. “The most challenging part of the job is helping families work through their emotions and fully understand their options after the doctor consultation is over, while knowing their lives have been drastically changed and may never return to normal again.” 

“Walther really prepared me well for my Nursing program. AP Biology provided a good baseline for all of my pre-requisite classes. AP Chemistry was really hard. I hated taking it, but I ended up with the highest score in my freshman Chemistry class at Concordia.”

“I am so glad that I went to Walther Christian Academy. Being in a smaller school, I could do anything I wanted, from sports to music to drama. I appreciated how Ms. Rose and Mrs. Boyer brought faith into the songs we played in band and sang in choir. And, the relationships formed with my teachers were special. They always believed in me. I still text with some of them today.”
